SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) – El Salvador’s legislature overturned a nationwide ban on metals mining on Monday, backing a key merchandise on President Nayib Bukele’s agenda for enhancing financial progress amid criticism from environmental teams.
El Salvador grew to become the primary nation on the planet to ban types of metals mining in 2017. Bukele, who took workplace in 2019, has known as the ban absurd and helps gold mining.
All 57 of Bukele’s allies within the Central American nation’s 60-seat legislature voted for the president’s laws to overturn the ban, with three lawmakers voting in opposition to it.
The laws will grant the Salvadoran authorities sole authority over mining actions inside the nation’s land and maritime territory.
