Greenland seeks nearer defence, mining ties with the US, says prime minister


COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – Greenland needs to work nearer with the US within the space of defence and on exploring the Arctic island’s mining assets, Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede informed a press convention on Monday.

Egede mentioned his authorities was searching for methods to cooperate with the US and that it was prepared to start out a dialogue with the incoming administration of Donald Trump.

When requested about increasing the U.S. army capabilities on island, Egede mentioned: “Greenland’s independence is Greenland’s enterprise, additionally in relation to the usage of its land, so it is usually Greenland that can resolve what settlement we must always come to.”
