Bessent: Carbon tariffs may very well be a part of an total tariff program


WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump’s choose for U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, instructed U.S. senators on Thursday he’s taken with probably enacting tariffs on carbon emissions.

“It’s a really fascinating concept that may very well be a part of a complete tariff program,” Bessent instructed the Senate Finance Commmittee, “President Trump hasn’t taken workplace but but when confirmed, I look ahead to working with them on varied methods, some that may very well be particularly aimed for carbon.”

Bessent mentioned different tariffs may very well be geared toward different commerce practices.
