Australia’s Optus mulls promoting sports activities streaming service to 9, AFR studies

(Reuters) – Singapore Telecommunications-owned Optus, Australia’s No. 2 telecom provider, is trying to promote its sports activities streaming platform Optus Sport to media home 9 Leisure, the Australian Monetary Evaluation (AFR) reported on Monday.

A possible deal would grant streaming rights for the English Premier League to 9’s native streaming service Stan, whereas permitting Optus to concentrate on its core telecom belongings, the report mentioned, citing sources with information of the talks.

Optus, 9 Leisure and SingTel didn’t instantly reply to Reuters’ requests for feedback.

The AFR report comes after DAZN’s A$3.4 billion ($2.11 billion) buyout of cable-TV platform Foxtel final month, which can permit the British-owned sports activities community to enter the Australian market with rights to the Australian Soccer League and the Nationwide Rugby League.
