Peru names Jorge Montero as minister of mines and power


(Reuters) – Peru has named Jorge Montero as its new minister of mines and power, in accordance with a authorities decision printed on Sunday, after his predecessor was eliminated by the nation’s congress.

Former minister Romulo Mucho was faraway from his submit on Tuesday as protesters from small-scale miners camped outdoors the Peruvian legislature’s constructing in capital Lima, and intermittently halted visitors all through the south.

Peruvian small-scale miners – a lot of whom don’t function with correct permits – have been demanding a two-year extension of a program that enables them to function quickly.
