Worldcoin should delete all iris scan knowledge, watchdog says


MADRID (Reuters) – Sam Altman’s firm Worldcoin should delete all iris scanning knowledge collected because the begin of the challenge that has sparked privateness considerations in a number of international locations, Spanish knowledge safety watchdog AEPD mentioned on Thursday.

AEPD cited a call earlier on Thursday by its Bavarian counterpart BayLDA, with whom the company has cooperated on the case, that discovered the enterprise in breach of the European Union’s Normal Information Safety Regulation.

World, as Worldcoin has rebranded itself, has its European headquarters within the German metropolis of Erlangen, in Bavaria.

Spain’s Excessive Courtroom in March upheld a short lived ban on the iris-scanning enterprise, dismissing an attraction by Worldcoin homeowners.

Co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2019, Worldcoin goals to create a worldwide id system by getting individuals to have their irises scanned in change free of charge cryptocurrency and a digital ID.
