Factbox-Greatest aviation accidents of 2024


(Reuters) – The crash on Sunday of a Jeju Air Boeing (NYSE:BA) 737-800 in Seoul killed a complete of 179 folks within the deadliest air catastrophe on South Korean soil.

Listed below are a few of the largest aviation accidents of 2024, so as of severity:

SOUTH KOREA

Jeju Air worldwide flight 7C2216, originating from Bangkok, Thailand, and directed to Seoul, crashed on Dec. 29, killing all 175 passengers and 4 of the six crew.

BRAZIL

Voepass regional flight 2283, an ATR-72 turboprop originating from Cascavel and directed to Sao Paulo, crashed on Aug. 11 within the city of Vinhedo, killing all 62 folks on board.

In a separate accident, a small non-public airplane, a twin-engine Piper PA-42-1000, carrying 10 folks crashed into retailers within the heart of the vacationer metropolis of Gramado in southern Brazil on Dec. 22, killing everybody on board and injuring 17 folks on the bottom.

KAZAKHSTAN

Azerbaijan Airways worldwide flight J2-8243, an Embraer E190 originating from Baku, Azerbaijan, and directed to Grozny, Russia, crashed close to town of Aktau in Kazakhstan on Dec. 25, killing 39 folks. 29 folks survived.

NEPAL

The CRJ-200 plane, a small passenger airplane belonging to Nepal’s Saurya Airways, crashed and caught fireplace whereas taking off from Kathmandu to the Pokhara airport on July 24, killing 18 folks on board and leaving one survivor, the captain.

MALAWI

Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and 9 others, together with former first girl Shanil Dzimbiri, had been killed on June 10 en route from Lilongwe to Mzuzu, when the army airplane they had been travelling in crashed.

THAILAND

Home constitution flight TFT209, a Cessna Caravan C208B registered to Thai Flying Service Co originating from Suvarnabhumi and directed to Trat, crashed 100 km southeast of Bangkok on Aug. 23, killing all 9 folks onboard.

IRAN

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and 6 different passengers and crew of a U.S.-made Bell 212 helicopter died in a crash on Could 19 in mountainous terrain within the Varzeqan area, close to the Azerbaijan border.

CANADA

Six folks had been killed after a Northwestern (NASDAQ:NWE) Air airplane carrying international miner Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO)’s employees crashed close to Fort Smith in Canada’s distant Northwest Territories (NWT) on Jan. 23. 4 passengers and two North Western Air Lease (NYSE:AL) crew members died within the crash, whereas one passenger survived.

JAPAN

A Japan Airways (JAL) airplane collided with a smaller Coast Guard plane on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Jan. 2. All 379 folks aboard the JAL airplane, an Airbus A350-941 flight, escaped the burning airliner, whereas 5 of six crew on the smaller plane had been killed.

SINGAPORE

One passenger died of a suspected coronary heart assault and 30 had been injured after a Singapore Airways (OTC:SINGY) Boeing 777-300ER airplane from London to Singapore hit extreme turbulence on Could 21, flinging passengers and crew across the cabin and forcing the airplane to land in Bangkok.
