US suspends Mexican cattle imports after New World screwworm case


MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – The USA has briefly paused imports of Mexican cattle after a case of New World screwworm (NWS) was recognized on the lakeside city of Catazaja in southern Chiapas state, the Mexican authorities mentioned on Sunday.

“The USA and Mexico are engaged on implementing measures to renew the conventional move of Mexican exports,” it mentioned in an announcement.

It added that the measures didn’t apply to different exports and management measures have been being carried out.

The U.S. Division of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday mentioned that Mexico’s chief veterinary officer had notified it of the detection of NWS in a cow at a checkpoint close to the southern border with Guatemala.
